"Happy new year" is not "Akemashite Omedetou"

The other day, some guy said to me on skype "あけましておめでとうございます(akemashite omedeto gozaimasu)!".

lol.

But then I did know it, "あけましておめでとう" isnot "Happy new year".

"あけましておめでとう" can be used only after the year was changed. So it's so strange to use before the new year. You can use "よいおとしを(yoi otoshi wo)" instead of "あけましておめでとう".

"よいおとしを" means mostly same of "happy new year". "よいおとしを" is a farewell sentence like good-bye. so you cann't say it when you see someone. Please try to say "よいおとしを" when you'll part someone last of year.

Yuzuyu

The winter solstice is a day that the sun is lowest in the northern hemisphere, so it's the shortest day of hours of sunshine there. In Japan, there is a custom to take a bath with yuzu that day. It's called "YUZUYU", It is good to reject catching a cold and is good perfume. So I bought one yuzu and put it into my bathtab. I was sutisfied to make YUZUYU, and my sons were with Japanese old custom. But I know it now googled to write this post, it's better to use a lot of yuzu. It becomes better smells and many effects. Next Year, I'll maybe buy a lot of yuzu.

The origin of Oyasuminasai

(I'll go to bed). (May you) go to bed?"

"Oyasuminasai tte douiu imi?" tte tomodachi kara kikare mashita.
ga, souha itte mitakedo, nanika hendesu. naze, Meireikei wo tsukaunndesyou?
nande, google de kotaewo shirabe mashita.
"Oyasminasai" no kanzenna bunha "(Yasumimasu). Oyasuminasai(masenka)"desu.
Kono imiha, "(I'll go to bed). (May you) go to bed?" dato omoimasu.
Chinamini syashinha, sobayani ittatokini totta monodesu.

I was asked from friends "what does oyaminasai mean". I saied "oyasumi = sleep", and "nasai is imperative sentence", so "oyasuminasai is Do sleep".But I said so, I thought it was a little strange. Why is this passage the imperative sentence?
So, I googled to find the answer.
The full sentence of "Oyasuminasai" is "(Yasumimasu). Oyasuminasai(masenka)".
It means "(I'll go to bed). (May you) go to bed?", I think so.
By the way, this picture was taken when I went to soba restaurant.

KonnichiHA and KonnichiWA

Sometimes I have been asked "Why do you write Konnichiha, not Konnichiwa". I try to explain that reason.

"Konnichiha" can be separeted "Konnichi-ha", "Konnichi" means "Today". "ha" is a particle. When "ha" is used as a particle, it is said "wa". so "Konnichiha" is correct in text, but pronounced "Konnichiwa". I think that this is the most particular inflection in Japanese, but this inflection is more commonly used.
For example, "She is lucky" is "Kanojo ha lucky desu". This "ha" must say as "wa".

hmm, Could you understand it?

Gorgious Christmas Tree

New headset

I used a analog wired headset for both ears. It was a cheap but a good for me excepting I had be able to hear only in front of my PC. The other day, I bought a new little headset at Amazon, that was wireless and used the feature of bluetooth. Yesterday I tried it.
I thought It was pretty good, but it had some difference between the old headset and the new one. Fiest of all, it is a defference of the sound quality . The sounds of the old one is high quality and has no noise, but the new one has a little noise, and its sound is a little delayed. The next difference is about the battery. I have to take care the new one about the rest of battery, it's troublesome for me.
At last, this is the most important reason, the new one is for one ear, not for both of ears. I'm bad at hearing English, so I cannot hear with one ear well. I had better I choosed a headset for two ears.
I want to bacome using this new headset without unconvinience some day.

Today, I found a good mood soba restaurant when I was walking at Akasaka. All on (of) a sudden I became to want to eat soba, (This sounds odd, try "I wanted to eat soba", or "I got the urge to eat soba") I decided to get a something to eat at that restaurant.
I got in and saw (Use "look" instead of "saw.") around, so small room, there are only 3 tables and only 14 chairs. It was crowded and there is (was) no empty chair. So I waited at the entrance for a while.
After I sat in my seat, I made an order "Rororo soba" that is ¥1000 . Umeboshi and quail's egg and scissors for quail's egg are on the table.
Soba of this restaurant was a little green, it's a little odd but very delicious soba. (You write well, however just remember to keep the same verb tense. You switch between "was" and "is", which is past and present tense.)

There is a big machine like a belt conveyer, that turns around a lot of plates of sushi, and you can get plates that you want to eat. I was so full that I ate 10 plates and one soup of aonori. It was very good taste, I enjoyed it.

Today's lunch is Soba

Ishikari-nabe

Jingisukan and Asahikawa ramen

And I ate ramen today's lunch. I got it from my aunt who live in Hokkaido. Ramen is so major foods in Japan, there are a lot of kind of ramens. This is a one of them "Asahikawa Ramen". Asahikawa is a city name of Hokkaido, and very cold city at winter.

I realized both foods are associated Hokkaido. This's a rera case by such a man who come from Hokkaido.

The begining contents of yeaterday's lecture

  • Dareka ga itta koto wo shinjiruna. Hontouni iito omotta koto dake kyuusyuu siro

  • Don't beleave what someone said. Be assimilate you only thing you feel really good.
  • In Honda, third-rate people called by their title, second-rate people called by their name like "kobayashi-san", top-rate people called by their nickname like "Sabu-chan", Soichiro was oyassan.
  • I hate MBA, but I'd persuaded that such a man must teach at business school ,so I've taught now.
  • I came from from Nagoya. In that place, "erai(high position and great)" means that a body feels so heavy also. "erai(high position)" is not only a domineering attitude, "erai" has including that mean.
  • When Honda had only 30 employees, Soichiro shouted on a orange crate "We became the top of the world". All employees were 2nd-classes and 3rd-classes. Such a company become a great company, It's not LUCK.

Action without philosophy is a lethal weapon;
philosophy without action is worthless.
Soichiro Honda

Great national asset

I went to listen the lecture of Professor Kobayashi of Hitotsubashi Univ. I didn't know him details, but I had been thought he was being great Japanese asset.
He is famous a particular domain "car airbag". When every car companies of
all of the world had stoped to develop airbag, like Toyota, Nissan, and Big3, he and 5 workers had succeeded developing "airbag" at Honda. It' was about 20 years ago when his team started researching it.
I'm very very excited by his lecture. So I'll write brief contents of the lecture at a next post.

My bigger son could make it as well as I could. But smaller son make someting like a big rice ball that is made with sumeshi and his hands, so the bigger son made smaller son nigiri-zushi. I was given a good muffler from my wife. She said to me "It looks nine on you with your jackat".

My favorite curry restaurant

It's curry that I like. I like spacially curry of this reataurant that named "PICKEENOO (PIKINU)" at Komazawa. Its curry based on thai curry , but it is arranged taste for Japanese.
It's a little famous , but has so tasty food. This shop is closed from 9, Dec to 8, Jan 2009. I heard the owner had been going to Thai to improve curry taste for a month a year. So I cannot eat it for the present, I miss it.

Kegani

Yesterday, My family ate Kegani what we were given from my uncle as "OSEIBO".
There are kinds of crab in Japan, Kegani, Tarabagani, Aburagani, etc.
My favorite grab is Kegani, yes this is. Kegani is smaller than other grab. But it is deeply taste and a little salty. Kegani's brain(?) is popular to taste very good for the people that love drinking. It's called "Miso".
You had better you do try it when you'll be in Japan.
I recommend you very much.

thanks! bye!

The buzzwords of 2008

Maitoshi 12gatu ni, ryukougo taishou ga happyou saremasu. Ryuukougo wo sugoku jyouzu ni setumei siteiru peji wo mitsuke mashita .GJ. "GJ" ha nihon no slang de Good Job no kotodesu. Onnnaji youni tukaimasuka?

Every December, The buzzwords of years have been announced in Japan.
I found a very good site that explains for all words. GJ. "Good Job" in Japanese slang , do you use same case?

Nanode, tokuni setumei suru hituyouha nainodesu. Demo kyouha, hitotsu no kotoba wo chotto hukaku setumei shitemimasu.

I needn't explain anything special. So today, I explain a word of them more deeply.

Sakkino site ha kou setumei shite imasu.

The site explain below.

“I am one of your works” (watashi wa anata no sakuhin no hitotsu desu - 私もあなたの作品の一つです): Following the death of legendary manga artist Fujio Akatsuka on August 2, comedian and TV personality Tamori (a.k.a. Kazuyoshi Morita) delivered a eulogy, in which he said, “I am one of your multitude of works.” Akatsuka was instrumental in helping Tamori during his early years in show business.

kono bun ha takusan no watashi no shiranai kotobaga arimasu, watashi ha konnani jyozuni kakemasen.
This sentence has many words that I don't know, so I cannot write these good sentence :) .

. romaji ni honyaku ni machigai ga arimasu "watashi wa anata no sakuhin no hitotsu desu" . tadashikuha, "watashi *mo* anata no sakuhin no hitotsu desu" desu. mo ha "Yoo too" no too to onaji imidesu. kono chigai wo setumei shimasu.

This sentence is correct, and I heard at TV "私もあなたの作品の一つです。”. but the sentence of translated romaji "watashi wa anata no sakuhin no hitotsu desu" is wrong . By right, "watashi *mo* anata no sakuhin no hitotsu desu". mo is too like "You too". I'd like to explain this change.

Fujio Akatsuka ha densetuteki na mangaka desu. kareno sakuhin ha hotondono nihonjin ga shitte imasu. mata tamori ha subete no nihonjin ga shitte iru hazudesu.
Fujio Akatsuka is legendary manga artist. Almost of Japanese know his works. And all of Japanese know Tamori.

sonnna tamori ga ittanodesu,
"I'm nothing more than one of your many other works".

So he said,
"I'm nothing more than one of your many other works".

I think so.

Motomoto, watashi ha tamori ga amari sukideha arimasen deshitaga. Demo kono supi-chi de kareheno kangaega kawarimasita.
Kareno subeteno supi-chi ha kokoni arimasuga, nagasugirushi mutukasi sugiruto omoimasu.
Kono hanashi ni kyoumi wo mottano nara, saigono ichi bun dake yomunoga iito omoimasu. Sorega ikano bubun desu. kono bubun ga supi-chi no core desu.

In fact, I didn't like Tamori. but I changed my thought for him by this speech.
All of his speech is here, but too long and too difficult.
If you are interested in this stroy, I suggest you read only last sentense. It's bellow. This is core of this speech.

Soreha nikushin ijyouno kankeidearu anatatono aidani, oreiwo iutokini tadayou taningyougina hunikiga tamaranakattanodesu. Anatamo onajikanngaeda toiukotowo, taninwo tuujite shirimasita. Sikasi, ima oreiwo iwasete itadakimasu. Akatuka sennsei, hontouni osewani narimashita. Arigatou gozaimashita. Watashiomo anatano ookno sakuhinno hitotsu desu.」

atode, karega motteita kaminiha nanimo kaiteinai kotoga wakarimasita.
At a later date, we know Tamori's paper that had no words.

see you! bye.

Today's lunch was Udon and Onigiri

I went to Midtown to watch a conference "Sun Tech Days 2008 in Tokyo" at Roppongi. I've worked at Akasaka so I can take for 10 minutes by walk between my offece and Midtown, have visited some times. but I had never had someting to eat yet in Midtown, and had never walked around a area of restaurant.

So I was looking forward to stolling. I walked into the area soon, I found a restaurant "Miyatake Sanuki Seimensho" that had a line. I thought "this resraurant must be tasty". I stood in a last of the line automatically.

My ears picked up voices of someone, "I didn't know this restaurant, Did you know?". So I think it must be opened a restaurant recently.

The restaurant has some udon and some onigiri(rice ball) menu, and we can choose to eat in it and to take out. I orderd a big simple udon(no something aditional) and a takana onigiri, paid 600 yen. I think it is cheap to consider this busy area.

I ate udon with grated ginger and onigiri.
Its taste is simply and tasty.
It is Sanuki udon.

bye!

In Tokyo University

Last friday, I went to watch a conference at Yasuda Kodo in Tokyo university. This college is known as a one of the most excellent college in Japan, and Yasuda Kodo is familiar with a popular incident locality of a campus activism of Tokyo univercity that called "Toudai Hunsou".

President of this school said "It's most beautiful season for this collage", so I walked around colored leaves. One of the picuture is called "Sanshiro Pond"(this name come from a story "Sanshiro" of Soseki Natsume). It's so beautiful regardless of rainy.I recommend you this season if you'll visit to Japan.

This conference has many interesting issues for me about Japan, China and Korea, how to compete against each other to be fair, how to collaborate eath other, how to build a cooperative system to make innovation, etc. The topic of most intersting by me, "How to educate captains to lead these area". It's very difficult and too colossal for me. but after I watched some presentations and conversations, I thought I should consider it bit by bit.

Maybe We should it.

thanks
